Accounts
A private ledger for every shop, vendor and friend.
An Account belongs to you alone. Use one per counterparty — the kirana store, the milkman, a contractor, a friend you lend to — and always know what you spent there and what is still due.
- Full or Advance payment
- Record an expense as paid in full, or enter the advance you paid. The advance is saved as the first payment and the rest becomes Due — automatically.
- Due tracked per entry
- Each entry keeps its own Due, so nothing gets lumped together. The Due tab lists only entries with something still to pay.
- Full Pay and Part Pay
- Clear the remaining Due in one tap, or record a partial payment with the date you actually paid. BalanceUp never lets a payment exceed what’s due.
- Complete payment history
- Every payment appears under its entry and in the account’s Transactions feed — both read from the same records, so they always agree.
- Edit safely
- Change an entry’s amount, category, note or date. The total can never drop below what you’ve already paid, and Due is recalculated for you.
- Money to receive
- Enable payment records on an account to also track money that others owe you.
- Covers & currency
- Give an account a cover from the curated gallery or your own photo, and its own currency if it differs from your default.
- Close when done
- Closing an account keeps its full history but makes it read-only. Deleting removes it from your lists.
Groups
Shared spaces for trips, flats, families and events.
Create a group with a name, date, budget and cover. You become its admin and first member; invite others and start adding expenses right away.
- Invitations
- Search registered BalanceUp users by email, mobile number or name and invite them. They join when they accept; duplicate invitations are prevented.
- Guests
- Add people who don’t use BalanceUp by name, with an optional email or mobile number. Guests can pay and share expenses like anyone else.
- Budget at a glance
- See total spent, remaining budget and overspending the moment an expense is added.
- Rich expenses
- Amount, category, date, an optional note, who paid, who shares it and how it’s split — edited or deleted by its creator or an admin.
- Group permissions
- Choose who can add expenses, invite members, close the group and delete it: admins only, or all members.
- Group currency
- Each group can use its own currency — handy for trips abroad — without converting anything behind your back.
Splitting
Equal or Exact — always to the paisa.
Every amount in BalanceUp is stored in whole paise, so splits never lose or invent money. What you see is exactly what adds up.
- Equal split (default)
- The amount is divided among the selected participants; any leftover paisa goes to the first participants in a fixed order, so shares always total the expense.
- Exact split
- Type each person’s share. Negative amounts aren’t possible, and you can only save when the shares match the total exactly — the app shows how much is remaining or over.
- Any payer, any participants
- Members and guests can pay or share. Removed members stay visible on old expenses, so history never loses a name.
- Recalculated on the server
- Your phone previews the split; BalanceUp’s server recalculates it before saving, so no device can get the numbers wrong.
Settle up
Who owes whom — and the fewest payments to fix it.
The Settlement Summary shows the group total, what each person paid and owes, their net balance and a short list of suggested transfers.
- Net balance for everyone
- Net balance = total paid − total owed. Positive means they should receive money, negative means they owe, zero means settled.
- Suggested transfers
- BalanceUp matches the largest debts with the largest credits to keep the number of payments as small as practical.
- Close the group
- When everyone has settled outside the app, an authorised member closes the group. The summary is saved and every record becomes read-only.
- No money moves
- Settle Up is a calculation. Pay each other by cash, UPI or bank transfer — BalanceUp never touches the money.
And more
Thoughtful details, everywhere.
Offline-first
Accounts and groups live on your phone. View, add, edit and delete entries, expenses, guests and permissions without a connection; everything syncs when you’re back online.
Automatic sync
Sync runs at sign-in, shortly after each change, on reconnect, when you open the app and every few minutes. A banner shows progress, offline status and anything that couldn’t be saved.
Group reports
Group expense reports by day, week, month or a custom range: totals, group-wise breakdown, member contributions and budget versus actual.
Notifications
Push and in-app alerts for invitations, new members, new group expenses, group closing, PIN changes and logins from a new device — each can be turned on or off.
Currencies
Set a global currency once; give any group or account its own. Different currencies are never mixed into one total.
Secure sign-in
Email one-time codes, a 6-digit login PIN (weak PINs rejected), or continue with Google or Facebook. Attempts are rate-limited.
Login devices
See which devices are signed in to your BalanceUp account, when they signed in and when they were last active.
Profile
Update your name and profile photo, change your PIN and your global currency from Settings.
Invite family & friends
Share BalanceUp with the people you split with, straight from the app.
